Take Two

Today was an easy day for us. All I wanted to do was to satisfy my curiosity about Peach Springs, a place that I visited thirty years ago. At the time, I never heard of Peach Springs. Even if I knew of its existence, I never expected to ever be there. As it was, one of my accounts owned a quarry and plant just off the Hualapai Reservation and I wound up going there twice. We went there because I wanted to see what the town looked like after all these years. We drove about 80 miles west to satisfy my curiosity. If possible, the town seemed more desolate then it was 30 years ago. I suspect that if it was not the administrative headquarters of the Hualapai Reservation, it would be in even worse shape.

Peach Springs is one of those towns bypassed by I-40 and left to die economically. Unlike Tucumcari, NM and Needles, CA, which still have exits off of I-40, Peach Springs is over 30 miles from the nearest exit at Seligman. Route 66, now designated as Arizona Route 66, runs from Seligman to Kingman. On the way back to Williams we drove through Seligman. It has a small commercial strip similar to the one in Williams, but I can't imagine it gets too much traffic from I-40.

This afternoon we just hung around the hotel. I edited a few pictures Susie took in Sedona and the Grand Canyon and added them to the pages for those days.

Neither of us ever took the cameras out of their cases.
